Her books are known for their engaging plots and well-developed characters, reflecting her dedication and love for her words. In 2018, she received an award by “The Spirit Mania” as one of the “Top 50 Most Influential Authors”.
Q.1 Let’s start with thanksgiving. If given a chance, who would you like to thank for supporting you in your author journey?
I would first and foremost like to thank my mother. She has been the pillar of my support throughout my journey as a writer. From the very beginning, she encouraged me to write and always believed in my potential. I never would have had the confidence to pursue writing seriously without her encouragement. She has not only supported me emotionally but also been my biggest motivator, always pushing me to keep going even when things seemed tough. Whatever success I have today in my writing career is all thanks to her unconditional love and belief in me.
Q.2 What first sparked your love for writing and storytelling during your school days?
I’ve always had a deep love for storytelling, even when I was young. During school, I started writing short stories for my exams. I would craft my answers in the form of a story, adding in dialogues, suspense and a touch of drama. This made my answers more engaging and interesting, and it became something I truly enjoyed. My teachers noticed my unique approach and praised me for it. Their encouragement meant a lot, and it made me realise that writing was something I truly loved. That’s when I knew I wanted to explore writing further, not just as an academic exercise, but as a true passion.
Q.3 With seven books to your name, how has your journey as an author evolved over time?
When I wrote my first book, I didn’t expect it to get published. It was more of a hobby for me, something I did because I enjoyed writing. But when my first book was actually published and received a positive response, it felt like a dream come true. That’s when I realised I could actually be an author. Over time, I experimented with different genres, because I wasn’t sure where my strengths lay. I wanted to explore different styles of writing and find my true voice. Each book I wrote taught me something new. It wasn’t until I published Welcome Home, My Accidental Mrs. that I realised crime thrillers were my true calling. That’s when I started focusing on writing thrillers and it’s been a rewarding journey ever since. It’s been challenging, but every challenge has made me a better writer.
Q.4 Can you share the inspiration behind some of your most popular books, like Intimidating Obscurity or The King of Solideath? And what are these books about?
My inspiration comes from all sorts of places—real life events, stories I’ve read or watched, and sometimes just things that pop into my mind. I used to watch a lot of crime series and read crime fiction, which sparked my interest in writing my own mysteries. Intimidating Obscurity is a crime thriller about a woman, Stella Stewart, who will go to any lengths to save her love. She fights against everything, even the world, to protect him. It’s a story full of twists and turns, with suspense keeping you on the edge of your seat.
The King of Solideath, on the other hand, is a unique murder mystery where playing cards—specifically, Solitaire—are used as clues in a series of killings. The idea came to me when I was thinking about how a simple game could turn into a deadly game of life and death. Both books are close to my heart because they explore themes of love, sacrifice and justice in different ways.
Q.5 As both a journalist and an author, how do you balance the demands of these two careers? How has writing helped you grow personally or professionally?
Being a journalist and an author is a balancing act, but both roles feed into each other. While journalism is more focused on facts and real-world events, writing fiction allows me to tap into my imagination and creativity. I think of both as complementary. Journalism helps me improve my writing skills and stay sharp in terms of structure and clarity. It also helps me stay updated on current affairs, which often give me ideas for my books. On the other hand, writing fiction has allowed me to explore the depths of storytelling, develop characters, and create intricate plots. Both careers have helped me grow professionally by teaching me to express myself more effectively and connect with people through my words.
Q.6 In 2018, you were recognized by “The Spirit Mania” as one of the “Top 50 Most Influential Authors.” What did this award mean to you?
Winning this award in 2018 was a huge honour and a completely unexpected moment in my career. It gave me a lot of confidence and reaffirmed my decision to pursue writing seriously. Being recognized among the top 50 authors was a milestone for me, and it motivated me to continue writing and improving. It was the kind of validation that made me realise my work was being appreciated and resonating with readers. It encouraged me to aim higher and keep pushing myself to write better stories.
Q.7 Which are the top 3 books you would highly recommend, and what’s your most favourite genre? Tell us a bit about your likes, dislikes and hobbies.
I highly recommend The Silent Patient by Alex Michaelides, Gone Girl by Gillian Flynn, and The Girl on the Train by Paula Hawkins. These are all psychological thrillers that keep you hooked till the very end. As for my favourite genre, I love crime fiction and thrillers because I enjoy creating suspenseful plots and uncovering mysteries. Outside of writing, I love reading, cooking, and adventures. I’m also a big fan of puzzle-solving and strategy games that challenge my mind. As for dislikes, I’m not too fond of overly predictable stories. I love surprises.
Q.8 What advice would you give to young writers aspiring to publish their own books?
My advice to young writers is to keep writing and never give up. It’s easy to get discouraged, especially when things don’t go as planned, but persistence is key. Believe in yourself, and don’t be afraid to experiment with your writing. Also, be open to feedback—both positive and negative—as it helps you grow. Remember that every writer faces challenges, but it’s those challenges that make your writing stronger. Keep learning and improving and most importantly, write from the heart.
Q.9 Where do you draw inspiration for the intricate plots in your crime fiction and thrillers? Any challenges you faced while writing? If yes, how did you overcome them?
I draw inspiration from real-life events, crime stories in the news, and, of course, my imagination. I love exploring psychological aspects of crime and the human mind, which allows me to create complex characters and plot twists. One of the biggest challenges I face while writing is making sure the plot remains unpredictable and gripping. It’s easy to fall into cliches, but I work hard to make my stories fresh and original. I overcome this by doing a lot of research, thinking through every angle of the plot, and always looking for new ways to surprise my readers.
Q.10 Can you give us a glimpse into what you’re working on next? Are there more thrillers or new genres in store?
I’m currently working on another crime thriller, which will likely be released by April or May next year. I’m sticking to thrillers for now because the response has been amazing, and it’s a genre I truly enjoy. However, I’m open to exploring new genres in the future, but I’ll continue with thrillers for the time being. The next book will have a new set of challenges and twists, and I’m excited to share it with my readers.
Q.11 What factors are most important to you when choosing a book marketer? Any 3 practices that according to you are a must while marketing a book.
When choosing a book marketer, I look for someone who truly understands the essence of my book and knows how to reach the right audience. The marketer should be able to create engaging and visually appealing content that grabs the attention of readers. Building a strong social media presence is crucial. Platforms like Instagram, Twitter, and Facebook are great tools for connecting with readers.
